Around 8,800 premises in this state are allowed to provide dine-in services today under Phase 2 of the Penang Gradual Recovery Strategy.
State Housing, Local Government, Town, and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said that this brings to a total of 9,682 premises statewide approved to provide dine-in services during period the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.
“Out of that number, 3,200 are under the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) (excluding pubs and bars) while 5,592 premises are under the Seberang Prai City Council ((MBSP),” he said at an online media conference.
He said that on May 15, 720 premises on the island were allowed to dine under Phase 1 and 167 premises in Seberang Perai.
“Premises that are allowed to operate are those in shopping malls, hotels, and franchise restaurants,” he said.
On 13 May, the state government declared that dine-in operations were permitted to be resumed at the stage by 15 May in hotels, supermarkets, and fast-food chains in the state and it must comply with the 14-stage operating procedure.
