KUALA LUMPUR:

During Movement Control Order (MCO), the widespread adoption of the digital economy offers companies and customers various possibilities to improve their relations within the business ecosystem.

The Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Surina Shukri said the digital platform is a strong mediator for the supply and demand system, historically involving multiple parties over the several stages supply chain.

"There are many mediators in the conventional business system, so that's why the products can hardly reach the market.

"Entrepreneurs can connect directly to consumers through digitalization, and thus we can close the supply chain gap," she said during the “Facing the World’s New Norm” (Mendepani Normal Baharu Dunia) webinar organised by Astro Awani.

This webinar also included Fellow at the Malaysian Academy of Sciences, Dr Madeline Berma, and Najib Ibrahim, Chief executive Cyberview Sdn Bhd.

Surina urged on local businesses, especially small and medium-sized businesses, and micro-enterprises, to take the courage to market their products onto the digital platform to generate revenues in this time of crisis.

In addition to selling products through 'cash on delivery' or 'walking-in' methods which give fewer returns, business people should innovate and follow a forward-looking approach in the running of their business.

"The digital gap among local businessmen also needs to be bridged. We will provide the infrastructure and there is free, online content for them to learn about e-commerce.

"To have confidence and not to give up is what's really important. You will not get the result if you don't make an effort, "she continued.
