Financial assistance will be provided for the rickshaw peddlers and e-hailing drivers

 Next month, from April to June, the Penang Government will make full payments to the rickshaw peddlers affected by COVID-19.

Yeoh Soon Hin, chairman of the State Tourism Committee, said that each rickshaw peddler will receive RM500 sum including RM300 allowance and a single cash aid of RM200.

"I have communicated with various industries in order to understand the needs of various stakeholders, and I have also forwarded to the State government the specifications and suggestions that will best benefit them.

"About 318 peddlers are supposed to benefit from the payout," he said.

Earlier in the month, the state government allocated RM100 to the peddlers to help those without fixed incomes.

Yeoh said the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will also provide one-off cash assistance worth RM500 for a total of 1 367 tour guides licensed.

"10,000 Penang e-hailers will be provided one-off RM300 while 2,248 taxi drivers will be given an initial RM300 incentive with an additional one-off RM200 incentive.

"I will continue to track the situation, in order to ensure that those people who need support most benefit will be able to benefit," he said. 

Last day, Chow announced a Kit of RM75 million for allocation to 15 target groups, affecting over 400,000 pandemic recipients.
