OAKLAND:

Google's new feature -Google Meet videoconferencing service is now open to anybody who wants to use it. The company says anybody with a Google account will now be able to create free meetings of up to 100 people.

This month Zoom Video Communications Inc., Skype Microsoft Corp, and Messenger Facebook Inc unveiled apps to draw people who do not have to go out to society to search for free connections to friends and families via online video.

But Meet, with a population of 100 million regular users, required a Google business or education account to set up calls. While Google has long been providing free versions of business tools such as Gmail and Google Docs, the Meet service was introduced three years ago and was not matched.

The organization will slowly open Meet over the next few weeks and users can register to know when their account will be available.

Smita Hashim, Google Product Management Officer, said that it recommends the use of Meet over the Hangouts by consumers.

Calls are made via Google servers, enabling them to automatically transcript, fix problems, and comply with legislative regulation for the sharing of data between users. However, calls from customers aren't stored. Companies and schools should have access to videos and other resources exclusively.

Google's cloud service, which Meet has created, doesn't use customer data for advertising.

But after an hour starting from October, Meet will cut free calls compared to Messenger and Skype with no time limit and a 40-minute limit on user Zoom accounts.  Calls for free meetings will also be limited to only one host and 100 members ó the same as a free version of Zoom but above the 50 on Messenger and Skype.

Google is committed to avoiding misconduct by allowing all Meet Customer Participants to sign up for an accounts Google. The names and profile pictures of the participants will be available on call but they will not share their e-mail addresses, Hashim said.
