KUALA LUMPUR :

Grab Malaysia has established three initiatives in support of small, independent businesses and hawkers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in particular.

To this end, the multinational ride-hailer will be embarking on a Small-Biz (GSR), a program that aims at providing each GrabFood small-scale business with the financial assistance of up to RM 3,000, and zero commissions on all digital pickups and pick-ups via WhatsApp, Facebook or phone.

"We'll also start a campaign for the 'Local Heroes' to encourage exposure and recognition through digital platforms in these restaurants. The campaign will begin on the 1st April, to raise awareness about our small, independent restaurants", Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh said.

He said that the company is providing 2 alternative channels to help its merchants meet demand at zero percent commission with the extension of the control order.

"Firstly, we'll give every qualified merchant a custom GrabPay link so that they can receive instant, free chat payments and orders made through Whatsapp, Facebook or a smartphone. On the other side, GrabRewards points can be won by customers.

"With GrabFood orders, if customers want to collect the food themselves, we will waive all commissions. We hope we can thus provide our businesses with some assistance, "he said.
