GEORGETOWN :

The Penang Malaysian Hotel Association (MAH) requires hoteliers to comply with the terms and standard operating procedures (SOP) set by authorities when it starts up operations next week.

The President of Penang MAH Khoo Boo Lim said that many of the properties had begun to clean and disinfect after Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared that the government planned to restart economic sectors, albeit with strict healthcare requirements.

"Hotels still working with minimal staff have recalled their staff on temporary leave to help clean," he said.

Khoo did not disclose how many hotels in the state would start operations next week and said that only accommodation and some beverage services are allowed.

Facilities including pool and gym will also be closed to avoid crowds.

He also added that no birthday parties and private parties are allowed to take place in the hotels which will begin to operate next week.
