TUARAN:

Kiulu will soon have a Biosphere Reserve Center for Environmental Education and Tourism Knowledge among the fastest-growing areas for rural tourism.

The Center will concurrently provide ease of access to education on environmental protection and awareness, said the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

" In addition, the Kiulu people will have the potential for the eco-tourism industry to improve their socio-economics."

The Tuaran MP said it has the potential to be a tourist attraction or resort to extreme activities due to its rich natural resources such as rivières, water cases, as well as flora and fauna.

"Nonetheless, it is important for all parties to use renewable or sustainable methods and avoid unwanted incidents particularly the tourist operators," he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah Parks Deputy Director Daring Laban said the initiative aims to enable the community to support the RBBC Group Day State Division to be held June 11-12 at the Sabah Cultural Centre.

He said that in 122 countries, there are 686 Biosphere Reserves, adding that Malaysia has Tasik Chini in Pahang and Crocker Range.

"RBBC has 9 areas: Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran, Papar, Beaufort, Tenom, Tambunan, Keningau, and Ranau.

"I hope all of us work together in order to ensure the biosphere reserve of the Crocker Range is well secured here," he said.
