KOTA KINABALU :

Here at the Petagas War Memorial, a memorial hall will be built to display images and historical information related to unsung heroes of the Second World War (WWII).

Works to build the proposed hall will begin this year, said Deputy Chief Minister cum Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, which will cost a few million ringgit.

She said the designated developer has submitted the hall-including development plan to the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and is awaiting approval.

"We've also appointed a developer who'd also come up with a full development plan.

"The construction consists of a new hall to be constructed on the side of the memorial in a vacant spot. This memorial hall will display all the historical photos and information (of the fallen heroes of WWII).

"I believe we will be able to begin work this year.

"I think those fallen heroes deserved something more than this after so long. And so the hall building is meant to keep and show all the works and contributions they've made for this country," she said.

She said the hall's presence will make the memorial a historic site, and will also make it another tourism site where tourists can come and understand what happened during the Second World War.
