PENANG:

The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) collaborated with ten hotel industry partners to provide packaged food for children and caregivers at a few orphanages and social organisations in Penang.

The initiative was funded by the proceeds of the BE @ Penang 2020 conference. BE @ Penang 2020 was held virtually, with an RM50 registration fee that pledged for a CSR food donation to Penang orphanages. Courtyard by Marriott Penang together with the state government joined PCEB in the CSR food donation at Rumah Charis Community Point.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said that this programme is in line with the state vision to build a caring society and caring environment.

"I want to encourage other organisations to come out and help these types of  NGOs",  he said.

Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau chief executive office Ashwin Gunasekeran said the programme is part of the utility giant’s initiatives to give back to the community.

“This is following the pledge made by the bureau to give back to the community based on the contributions from the industry collected from the BE @ Penang 2020 conference," he said.

"At the same time, we would also like to provide support to our hotel partners in their efforts to sustain their business", he added.

Up till today, we have already visited 10 orphanages and social organizations.
