Following the Virtual Career Expo held in 2021, Penang hosted a physical Career Expo after a two-year hiatus at St Giles Wembley today on the 9th of April 2022 from 10 a.m to 5.00 p.m.

Hotels, attractions, and other services related to tourism are among the exhibitors at the expo. Mention a few, The Light Hotel, The Ascott Limited, Hard Rock Hotel, Cititel, Penang, The Top Penang, The Habitat, Rapid Penang, and many more.

The purpose of the exhibition was to offer an open recruiting platform for industry professionals to explore, analyse, and engage with existing talent and potential new hires. Many high-value job possibilities in the tourism and hospitality industries may be established using this platform, particularly for Penang citizens.

Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, stated that as the country's borders reopen, a significant workforce deficit emerged in every industry.

“For the past few months, the hospitality and hotel industry in Penang has been battling a shortfall of between 8,000 and 10,000 workers,” he said.

He added that the Penang State Government will continue to pour efforts and resources into recuperating and improving the state's resilience, to increase sustainability and also unlock potential.

The Penang career expo 'Ekspo Jom Cari Kerja' bridges the gap between employment suppliers and job seekers and also contributes to the sustainability of Penang's ecology as a tourism destination.

The Penang Career Expo "Ekspo Jom Cari Kerja," which works under the Penang2030 industry engagement initiatives framework seeks to close the gap of manpower shortage by connecting talents with employment opportunities, in this case in the hospitality industry, which is in urgent need of manpower. In other words, this expo links talents from all backgrounds to possibilities and vocations, allowing them to take advantage of the numerous prospects in Penang.

The target of the Penang Career Expo is not to just recruit young talents from Penang to work in the hospitality and tourism industry, but also to lure experienced talents from other states to look for career prospects in Penang.
