Penang state government extends help to improve the state economy

Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow has announced  "Pakej Bantuan Rakyat Pulau Pinang 2.0" totaling RM 76 million for the ongoing efforts to improve the economy following the pandemic during a press conference streamed live on his Facebook account.

He said there were three priorities behind the second economic stimulus package namely to help the most affected Penangites, to create capacity for the Working Group, and to ensure the continuing growth of the economy after COVID-19.

"Pakej Bantuan Rakyat Pulau Pinang 2.0 is aimed at putting capital in the hands of the most affected, targeted industries and markets.

 Pakej Bantuan Rakyat Pulau Pinang 2.0, brings overall state government's support incentives to  RM151 million which supports family benefits, workers, and industries.

As for tourism, which has been hit hardest by this pandemic, the state government in addition to RM 200,000 for show Penang has agreed to pump an additional 10 Million into the PEKA program, the country's first initiative in terms of arts, culture, and heritage content. 

In other developments, Chow who is also the chairman of Perbadananan's Penang Bukit Bendera Pulau (PBBPP), has declared a 100% exemption for March, April and May 2020 for rentals to the locals of the iconic tourist destination, Penang Hill, which was seriously affected by the pandemic.
