The presence in the area of the Tourist Police Unit UPP ensured that visitors were safe from crimes.

Ranau Police chairman DSP Sammy Newton said since it was formed, the UPP has supported the tourists and visitors at tourist attractions.

"The workers of our UPP have done their job very well; they are highly disciplined and both domestic and foreign visitors have been very positive about them."

"Becoming a major tourist destination in Sabah, UPP is important around the region not only as a safe place for tourists but also as a safe place for residents and foreigners," he said.

According to Sammy, the UPP is a key element of the police force, where the unit is responsible for providing domestic and foreign visitors with support, defense and security.

He said that the unit's main responsibility is to prevent crime, particularly in the tourist sector.

"As for our Ranau unit, all the personnel were told to be well aware of all situations that may arise," he said.
