SARAWAK:

Sarawak is believed to be able to rebuild its tourism sector within next 18 months. The confidence was expressed by Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim said his ministry now needed to re-strategise and look at the development of the state's tourism sector which was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our first focus is to eradicate the fear of the public for traveling in Malaysia including Sarawak," Abdul Karim said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

According to others, there is also a need to change the strategy of travel abroad.

"Of course we are focusing on domestic tourism and neighboring countries such as Brunei and Singapore as the people of the country also want to travel to destinations not far away," he said.

He also hopes to work closely with each of the industry players to help secure time from these countries to revitalize the tourism sector of the state.
