SARAWAK:

Sarawak's tourism sector, especially in nature, is expected to rebound in the next three months. The confidence was expressed by Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. Abdul Karim is also optimistic that the gradual opening of the tourism industry will bring new light to industry players.

However, he also hopes that the players in the industry will  need to continue to be patient in this difficult time.

“I believe that shortly when all the premises offering services involving the tourism sector are reopened, things will go back to normal.

"If things have improved, they (the tourism industry players) will be able to carry on business operations as usual," he said.

Understanding the difficult situation that had to be met during the Movement Control (CPP) Order, Abdul Karim also hoped that the parties involved had a sound plan for financial strategy.

The Sarawak Tourism Ministry had previously postponed all events sponsored under the ministry following the outbreak of the COVID-19 outbreak.

However the status of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF 2020) which is due in July is yet to be decided whether it will continue or be postponed.
