BANGKOK:

The arrival of tourists to Thailand is ticking as the Kingdom will relax some restrictions to welcome international tourists from 1 July.

As international air traffic resumes to approximately 10% of the level of pandemics before COVID-19, tourist arrivals may drop to 8,2 million this year and tourism receipts are projected to drop to 396 billion baht (100 baht = RM13,68) was said in the most recent forecast by the Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT).

TAT said Thailand welcomed 6.7 million visitors this year and zero foreign tourists during the first three months from 3rd April until 30th June, following a decision to enforce an international flight ban from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand.

As Thailand plans to implement travel bubbles with countries that have managed to contain COVID-19, TAT forecasts Thailand will receive between 14 and 16 million tourists this year.

From 1 July, international travelers, including business travelers, those who need medical treatments in the kingdom, permanent residents, foreign spouses, and Thai national children, international students, and professors were allowed into the kingdom.

Meanwhile, Governor Yuthasak Supasorn of TAT said international tourism arrivals would hit 300,000 with a turnover of 12.4 billion baht in the third quarter.

“The fourth quarter will see a further 1.2 million added to the market with revenue of 51.3 billion baht, but despite the high season those figures are 85 per cent and 90 per cent behind the same period of last year, respectively,” he said.
