GEORGETOWN :

Several trishaw riders in Penang were lightened by a huge relief after running empty for nearly three weeks when they received  RM 500 cash payment from the State Government in Komtar near Maybank yesterday.

The funding is part of a package to fund poor and low-income groups, the RM75 million stimulus package which Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow recently announced. Out of 329 recipients, only 90 turned up to receive the incentive.

The Chairman of the Committee for Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin, said he decided to open counters to give the trishaw riders the aid because many of those riders do not have a bank account.

"We still succeed in doing it anyway. And with everyone involved, such as MBPP, the police, Komtar security, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) George Town, my office and YB Phee Boon Poh's office, and the State Economic Planning Unit, thank you for helping to distribute the aid successfully"said Yeoh.
