IPOH:

The first 5G implementation in Perak will be developed in Proton City, Tanjung Malim as early as the first quarter of this year, said Exco Communications, Multimedia and NGO Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim.

He said the matter had been informed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at a meeting of the State Telecommunications Infrastructure Development Committee yesterday.

"I was briefed by the MCMC and if participating in the first quarter of this year will commence 5G project in Muallim district especially in Proton City area," he told.

According to him, Proton City was chosen as the first location based on 5G requirements to assist the development of the automotive city.

"For this 5G implementation, there are selected clusters such as Langkawi for tourism and Terengganu because of the oil and gas industry.

"In Perak, the demand is in the automotive industry in Muallim district," he said.

In a similar development, he said the state government was ready to apply to MCMC for 5G to be developed in Pangkor in line with the declaration of a tax free island.

However, he said it was dependent on the commitment of telco companies investing in developing 5G infrastructure in the country.

"When it comes to planning there will be regional levels but I can't say specifically because it depends on the investment of telco companies themselves," he said.
