Tourism Malaysia today celebrated the official launch of Cambodia Airways’ inaugural direct flight from Phnom Penh to Penang, marking a major milestone in strengthening regional connectivity and boosting bilateral tourism ties ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
The first flight, operated by an Airbus A319 with a 150-seat capacity, landed at Penang International Airport to a warm welcome, symbolising the beginning of this new route. The direct service will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays.
This strategic addition is set to enhance accessibility, increase visitor flow, and deepen cultural and business ties between Cambodia and Malaysia. It also follows Malaysia’s recent Sales Mission to Cambodia (19–22 June 2025), further affirming the country’s commitment to growing its presence in the region.
The new route complements existing connectivity between the two countries, which currently includes 41 direct flights weekly and over 7,200 available seats. In 2024 alone, Malaysia welcomed 77,342 Cambodian visitors, with tourism receipts surging by 47%—from RM164.2 million to RM240.8 million.
The initiative reflects both nations’ efforts to foster mutual growth in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
