The animals those were rescued and rehabilitated from Lok Kawi Wildlife Park can be seen around playing with their new toys. This all happened due to the group of volunteers who came up this weekend to spend time with the animals.

The staff of AirAsia from seven different countries and non- governmental organisation-Animal projects and Environment Sdn Bhd, or APE Malaysia have volunteered specifically.

“We steadily started the project on September 7th September (Saturday) after getting a go-ahead from Sabah Wildlife Department,” said Achilles Saureen, representing the AirAsia team from its AllStars Do Good Unit. He also added that these kinds of programme will add a sense of responsibility towards their community amongst the staff.

This 2-day programme called for utilising more than 600kgs of old fire hoses to make toys and equipment’s for animals to play within Lok Kawi out of which some will be distributed to other animal sanctuaries, including the Sepilok Orangutan rehabilitation centre.

Saureen also said they also devoted some extra time in painting and decorating the property to make it more colourful and cheerful for the animals to be livelier. Improving the lives and mental state of animals in captivity, said Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga. Apart from doing daily routine activities and just eating around, now the animals have Moreno entertaining things to do, he added.

Tuuga expressed his gratitude and showed his warm greetings to the volunteers and said more non-government institution should come forward and extend their help far and wide.
