BALI:

Bali Island has a lot of potentials to develop into a medical tourism hub in Southeast Asia, according to Indonesia's Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir. This will undoubtedly help the local communities' economies.

Sanur has been selected as a special economic zone that combines health and tourism to offer inclusive health care, economic transformation based on digital technology, and a move toward sustainable energy.

We are utilizing Bali's outstanding natural beauty to provide patients with top-notch medical care. Sanur's status as a destination for worldwide health tourism has grown more global as a result, according to Erick, who announced it in an official statement on January 16, 2023, in Jakarta.

On Monday, January 16, 2023, Erick and former president Megawati Soekarno went to the area. The region was developed under the first President Soekarno's or Bung Karno's vision for tourism, which aimed to elevate Indonesia in the global arena. The area is currently being developed by the SOE Ministry into a comprehensive tourist destination with a focus on health tourism.

In cooperation with the Mayo Clinic, the largest hospital in the United States, the government will construct hospitals and clinics of international standards on a 41.26-acre site. Additionally, the conference center, ethnomedicinal botanic garden, Bali Beach Hotel or Grand Inna Bali Beach (GIBB), and commercial hub for MSMEs will be refurbished.

Bung Karno designed the Hotel Bali Beach, often known as GIBB, which was started in 1963 and finished in 1966.

The second rejuvenation project carried out on Soekarno's legacy is the redevelopment of the tourism sector in Sanur. Previously, the SOE Ministry transformed the Bung Karno-built Sarinah Trade Center into a hub for the creative economy and a national MSME center.
