MALAYSIA :

Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) took the initiative to bring together leaders from the business events industry as the sector works on a recovery strategy.\

On June 14, a virtual meeting was held with industry leaders such as Dr. Irmohizam Ibrahim, chairman Asia-Pacific of the World Trade Centre Association (WTCA), Vincent Lim, president of the Asia Federation of Exhibition & Convention Association (AFECA), Francis Teo, president of the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (MACEOS), and Alan Pryor, president of the World Trade Centre Association (WTCA) (BECM). The meeting was chaired by   Abdul Khani Daud, CEO of MyCEB.

The industry leaders provided updates on their members' participation in vaccination centers (PPV).

They noted that the business events industry was rallying behind the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture's recovery plan and efforts to find key players in the business events industry for early vaccination.

MACEOS was assisting efforts to secure staffing at selected convention centers where the vaccination program is being carried out.

World Trade Centre KL, MITEC, KL Convention Centre, Setia City Convention Centre, Persada Johor, Borneo Convention Center Kuching, Sabah International Convention Center, and Setia SPICE Penang will be assisted by MyCEB staff and others from the business events industry.

?he business events industry is intertwined with the rest of the tourism industry, including airlines, venues, caterers and transportation providers", said  Abdul Khani Daud, the MyCEB CEO.

We need each other in order to recover. We welcome the statement made by Nancy Shukri, Minister of tourism, arts and culture, early this month in calling for early vaccination for the tourism and business events front liners. Once our industry is vaccinated, we can hopefully reopen,?e added.

The second project in the works is the creation of the MySafe Business Events Planner, which will be produced in collaboration between MyCEB and BECM. This planner will provide detailed information on the advance planning and organizing required for event organizers, laying out clear steps for assisting international associations, meeting planners, and trade show and exhibition organizers in navigating the safety measures.
