PENANG:

The durian traders in Penang will reopen their stalls on the roadside from today, according to the State Housing, Local Government, and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, in the State's Gradual Strategy for Recovery.

He said that stall owners should strictly comply with the SOPs to reopen their stalls.

He said that during the current reopening phase, customers can only order takeoff from the stalls along the road and that traders can only sell the durian packed in containers.

“The customers are still not allowed to dine-in at the roadside stalls,” he told reporters when met at a roadside durian stall at Lorong Susu.

Jagdeep said that reopening the roadside stalls was a gradual step towards revitalizing the economy since the beginning of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“(The economy) will revitalize eventually, but it all matters on when (will businesses reopen) and how (we are going to do it),” he added.

Before the reopening licensed Durian traders sold their Durian in public wet markets, nine of which were situated in Penang Island.

Jagdeep said about 100 durian stalls are located on the roadside on the island of Penang.
