MALAYSIA:

EasyStore, the Exabytes-owned e-commerce platform will be launching Sama-Sama Digital Sales from 25 September 2020 to 2 October 2020. The eight (8) days of online sales are supported by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Commerce Development Research Institute (Taiwan), Exabytes, EasyParcel, and Janio.

Exabytes, the parent company of EasyStore recently launched its Sama-Sama Digital initiative on 18 August 2020 to support Bumiputera small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to recover and sustain their businesses post-Movement Control Order (MCO). Since its launch, the initiative received a surge in participation from Bumiputera SMEs who would like to digitalise or accelerate the growth of their business on online platforms. Due to high demand, Exabytes also received requests to extend this initiative to non-Bumiputera SMEs in Malaysia. SMEs are an important component of the economy, making up 98.5% of business entities in Malaysia. In 2018, SMEs contributed 38.3% to the country’s gross domestic product and accounted for 66.2% of the workforce and 17.3% of exports, according to SME Corp Malaysia’s 2018/19 Annual Report.

The heart of Sama-Sama Digital’s initiative is to bersama-sama support SMEs impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. EasyStore, whose mission is to help small businesses grow through technology, wants to take the platform to greater heights as it helps homegrown brands sell and promote their products not only in Malaysia but across borders, specifically to Taiwan, through the Sama-Sama Digital Sales.

Chan Kee Siak, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EasyStore Commerce Sdn Bhd and Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd said, “We have received an overwhelming response since our Sama-Sama Digital initiative kicked off and the digitalisation pace has kicked up a notch ever since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. While our ongoing efforts to help SMEs have been fruitful and rewarding, we want to further help homegrown brands to grow their customer base beyond Malaysia. Our collaborative partnership with Commerce Development Research Institute (Taiwan) enables businesses to reach 500,000 customers within our sales period. Registered merchants for Sama-Sama Digital Sales will also have the opportunity to be discovered and grow their customer base in Malaysia and Taiwan with the perks tied to this digital campaign.”

MDEC’s Chief Executive Officer, Surina Shukri, also shared how MDEC’s support of this initiative with EasyStore continues to pave the way for local SMEs towards economic recovery. In embarking on this collaborative partnership with EasyStore, the Sama-Sama Digital Sales campaign empowers SMEs to go digital and at the same time, provides support for ecommerce entrepreneurs to reach a wider customer base. This initiative is also in line with the National ecommerce Strategic Roadmap (NeSR) that aims at promoting national brands to boost cross-border trade via e-commerce.

“The impact of COVID-19 is clear as it has fast-tracked ecommerce adoption globally and is now creating vast opportunities for local SMEs to make that digital leap and tap into global market for cross-border trade. Through the Sama-Sama Digital Sales, Malaysian SMEs are set to gain exposure and visibility to business matching opportunities. This will quickly set them up for Taiwan market expansion. This initiative is a great opportunity for local SMEs to penetrate the global market as it will raise the awareness of Malaysian-made brands and products among our neighbouring countries, such as Taiwan,” she added.
