SARAWAK:

The government of Sarawak has agreed to allow the resumption of operations by express boats in the green area, including during the Gawai festival, beginning 1 June  said Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

He said that the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBNS) took the decision, adding that the green region referred to the zone where there have been no positive COVID-19 cases for the past 14 days.

“The permission is valid until JPBNS decides otherwise,” he told reporters after presenting the Sarawakku Sayang 3.0 special aid to boat operators in Tebingan Kuching yesterday.

The aid, totaling RM99,500, has been distributed to 199 operators whose revenues were affected as from 18 March by the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) and Conditional MCO (CMCO).

The express boats permitted to operate were said to be able to carry only a half at any time of their maximum capacity to ensure the social distance and to comply with all SOPs established by the Health Ministry and the JPBNS.

Lee said the Sarawak Rivers board's enforcement officers under the government would be stationed at all express shipping terminals in the State to monitor SOP compliance with the Gawai festival.
