INDONESIA:

Google Indonesia's travel industry analyst, Vania Anindiar, said that 2022 is a year of revival for Indonesia's tourism sector. The industry, she said, has bounced back from its downturn during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Google Destination Insight data, foreign tourists' interest in visiting Indonesia has risen 36 percent during summer or throughout June-August this year compared to the same period in 2019.

"According to our data, the top six countries of origin of travelers visiting Indonesia are Australia, India, America, Singapore, UK, and France," Vania said at World Tourism Day 2022 media briefing held online on September 26.

Vania said that along with the growth of foreign arrivals, the domestic tourists' enthusiasm to travel also increased. Local tourists are generally interested in visiting small cities in Indonesia.

"Hotels need to learn about how to attract tourists who are increasingly more comfortable looking for information online," she said.

Growth is seen not only in domestic tourism. Indonesians are also more interested to travel abroad, increasing by 17 per cent when compared to the same period in 2019. Searches for the accommodation category grew 21 per cent, while interest in air travel rose 11 percent in the period.
