INDIA:

The ban for scheduled commercial international passenger flights from and to India has been extended until the end of April this year.

This means in fact that India, due to the coronavirus pandemic, has not allowed scheduled commercial flights to and from India for over a year. On 25 March 2020, India prohibited all commercial international flights.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the ban will not apply to all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by it. “An international scheduled flight may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis,” the DGCA said.

India has entered into bubble travel arrangements to make travelling easier for people with over eighteen countries including America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Bangladesh, Maldives and some Western Asian countries.

The operations of flights subject to the bubble arrangements will continue.

Transportation bubbles or 'Air Travel Arrangements' are interim arrangements between two countries for restarting commercial passenger services where the pandemic has caused the suspension of regular international flights.

They are mutually exclusive in nature and airlines from both the bubble-forming countries benefit from similar benefits.

A number of categories of persons, such as U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, expats with a valid U.S. visa or any Indian national holding a valid US visa, are allowed to take these flights to travel between India and the US.

Flights from the US to India also allow Stranded Indian nationals and all Overseas Citizens in India (OCI) with American passports.

Furthermore, seamen of foreign nationalities and Indian passport holders are permitted to board these flights subject to the authorisation of the Ministry of Shipping.
