JAPAN:

Japan Airlines (JAL) was the first airline in Japan to have been successfully certified with Diamond certification for the highest levels of travel safety measures.

Airline Passenger Experience Association (APX) and SimpliFlying conducted this inaugural audit in which JAL's COVID-19 safety measures were assessed and validated by their respective organizations through a large 58-specific checklist.

According to the audit, its certification process consists of three levels, and airlines are classified as gold, platinum, or diamond.

Japan Airlines Executive Officer for Products & Services Planning, Yasuyuki Sato, said, In response to the severe COVID-19 situation, first priority was to swiftly implement key safety initiatives to protect their valued customers and provide peace of mind throughout the travel experience.

"Although we are pleased to hear that these efforts over the past year have been highly evaluated, the air travel industry continues to face a challenging situation in 2021 and beyond. As such, we will continue to provide a safe and secure travel experience so that our customers can travel with confidence on a JAL Group flight,”he said.

"Japan Airlines has raised the bar in the health sector through initiatives like enhanced cleansing of key points of contact, in particular, cabin lavatories," said SimpliFlying Chief Executive Officer Shushank Nigam.

Taking these measures to ensure security in the hospital will help increase travellers' confidence."he added.

Over the past year, the carrier has introduced key safety initiatives under the JAL FlySafe Program and has become one of the earliest aviation companies to take-off guidance2, implementing and adopting guidelines described in CART (Council Aviation Recovery Task Force) for International Passengers (CART) and also offers complimentary COVID-19 coverage3.

The JAL Group will continue to adopt and implement key actions as the airline fully understands the necessity of restoring public trust in aviation.
