MALAYSIA:

In the form of the national rival trail (NRT) Programme, the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) is committed to building more than 1,000 km of trails by 2023 and 10,000 km by 2030.

Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, its minister, stated that construction was a strategy for pollution prevention which utilises a source approach for a solution based on nature.

KASA, he added, would recognise several riverine reserves to be established as recreational areas by building trails and river beautification activities, with the cooperation of all the state governments.

"If trails are built by the rivers, it will encourage activities such as picnicking, fishing and cycling among the local communities. The presence of people in these areas will prevent irresponsible parties from turning rivers into dumping grounds.

"In addition, the NRT has the potential of contributing to the local eco-tourism industry,” he said in a statement.

Tuan Ibrahim also made his statement that, in accordance with the 2020 National Environment Day and World River Day, the Pengkalan Datu River Trail was one of the pioneer NRT projects at Kubang Kerian.

The nearly 1 km long river path starts from behind the Hospital of Universiti Sains Malaysia and crosses mangroves near the homestay of Min House Camp.
