Malaysia expects 10 million international tourist arrivals this year

The Malaysia Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) is confident of achieving 10 million international tourist arrivals this year.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the ministry was optimistic in its bigger estimate, up from 9.2 million tourist arrivals, due to the further relaxing of conditions for tourist arrivals and the remaining 79 business events and programmes to be held in the country till Dec 31.

Nancy mentioned a large number of tourists from India who will be arriving for business events in Sabah and Sarawak in the upcoming months.

We will be having about 500 tourists from India in September and another 700 for a Tourism Conference in Sabah this year. Some might be bringing their families and some will be repeated tourists.

China will also open its border in November. Hence, we are quite confident this will increase the number of international arrivals. She added that fully-vaccinated travellers were no longer required to undergo pre-departure and on-arrival Covid-19 tests.

The travel insurance is also no longer a prerequisite for foreigners entering the country.

This week, Malaysia Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac)  announced it is revising to achieve 9.2 million international tourist arrivals with RM26.8 billion in tourism receipts this year.
