KUALA LUMPUR:

The first international shopping festival in Malaysia in conjunction with Ramadan, the Kuala Lumpur International Ramadan Festival 2020, will be held from May 8 to 17.

Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof said the festival, held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Center (WTC KL), could find products from local and international brands in one place.

He said the festival would also enhance networking and involvement by creating business opportunities between local and international entrepreneurs not only in Malaysia but in the wider regional and global markets.

"The Kuala Lumpur International Ramadan Festival will be unique, by bringing Muslim and non-Muslim businesses from member countries of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) to come to Malaysia to showcase and sell their products," he said before completing the pre-launch of the festival here last night.

The festival will also help Malaysian entrepreneurs venture into the halal business as shariah-compliant products are sought by at least two billion people worldwide.

The festival coincides with the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign and Malaysia's position as host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2020.

The 10-day shopping carnival is expected to draw people from all over Malaysia with various entertainment activities, daily tarawih prayers, international cooking demonstrations and cultural performances planned daily at the carnival.
