MICA'S FOLIDAY Campaign expected to bring 50,000 domestic tourists into Penang

Malaysian Chinese Inbound Association (MICA) is confident to attract 50,00 domestic tourists from July till the end of this year which targets to bring in RM 15 million of revenue.

State executive councilor for Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Heritage (PETACH), Yeoh Soon Hin said that the FOLIDAY  Campaign was planned to promote Penang for Interstate travelers and the Chinese market as a destination of choice for education and heritage.

" What is unique about this campaign is that it encompasses both short and long-term approaches to boost local tourism. 

He also said that this campaign will prepare the Chinese market to experience Penang later when the international border reopens.

Also present was Penang Motac Director, Jonathan Freddy, Director of Tourism Malaysia Northern Region, Ahamad Husni, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia Northern Region,Yoganthiran, and CEO of Penang Global Tourism, Ooi Chok Yan. 

Meanwhile, Presiden of the Malaysian Chinese Inbound Association (MICA), Dr. Angie Ng said that this campaign is held mainly to revive the domestic tourism sector in the country to able to sustain jobs for tourism industry players.

“The campaign will be able to boost our domestic economy besides creating job opportunities for the local community.

" if we don't do this, the tourism industry won't be able to revive in the short them as we know tourism industry was the first to fall and as assumption t will be the last to revive but with this, I believe we can revive the tourism industry in this short period," she added.

A B2B session was held yesterday at St. Giles Wembley hotel.

Among the tourism industry players who took part in the networking session were Penang Hill Corporation, The TOP Penang, The Habitat Penang Hill, Entopia, The Wembley and Cititel Express, G Hotel, M Summit 191 Executive Hotel Suites, Hotel Equatorial, Lexis Suites Penang and DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang.
