Outbound tourism rebounds during CNY

After the country relaxed its Covid-19 control and entry policies in early January, China's outbound tourism displayed an unexpectedly strong performance over the recent Spring Festival holiday. Industry insiders anticipate a strong recovery of the tourism market this year. 
Travel firms reported a spike in international bookings for the seven-day holiday from January 21 to January 27, with tropical locations and welcoming entrance rules chosen. 
Overseas reservations throughout the holiday season increased by 640% year over year, reports travel website Trip.com. 
The majority of travelers, according to the group, choose to travel to South-East Asian locations like Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. 
Flight reservations for the holiday jumped by 258% year over year for outbound flights and by 632% for flights entering the mainland, according to the travel website LY.com. Hotel reservations abroad climbed by 177%. 
The 35-year-old Lu Yao from Beijing who spent the holiday with her family in Thailand this year said, "My family's habit to take an abroad trip once a year, but it's been impeded by the epidemic in the past three years." 
Despite having visited Thailand five times, it is always our first pick. Some kind locals welcome us Chinese, and the prices are reasonable, she remarked. 
"There, we stayed for six days. We are now making plans for our upcoming family trip to Singapore, possibly for the May Day holiday. 
According to Dai Bin, head of the China Tourist Academy, the tourism sector may resume normal operations as a result of the Covid-19 control policies' optimization and loosened travel restrictions. 
"The Ministry of Culture and Tourism declared before the break that travel companies might start running group excursions to foreign countries again on February 6. 
According to him, the world responded positively to the kind signal and warm welcome given to Chinese travelers by places like Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. 
Given the increase in travel throughout the vacation, Shen Jiani, a senior researcher at Trip.com, anticipates a strong comeback of the tourist business this year. 
We anticipate a surge in tourists around the May Day holiday due to the upcoming increase in the number of international flights, she added. 
The National Immigration Administration's most recent statistics show that over the holiday, both inbound and outbound visitors surged.
