PERAK:

The Perak government has requested Perak's Sultan, Sultan Nazrin Shah's permission to gazette the Taiping Lake Garden including Bukit Larut as the Royal Lake Garden.

While submitting the proposal to Sultan Nazrin, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that any construction in the whole region would have to obtain the approval of the Perak Sultan after it has been gazetted.

"The Taiping Lake Garden is a precious heritage. The state government believes that this region must be protected from any construction activities that may harm its natural beauty, "he said.

He said this yesterday at an awards ceremony in conjunction with Sultan Nazrin's 63rd birthday at Istana Iskandariah.

Ahmad Faizal further claimed that the government of Perak approached tourism as a dual dimension, as it could also popularize the economy by spurring the growth of the services sector.

"Perak State is a land full of treasures, races, culture, and history. We are a society commodity that draws visitors in the home and abroad, "he said.
