KOTA KINABALU:

Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin has urged tourism players to make a point of choosing different tourist destinations with a Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China.

Chan said tourism players in "attracting" tourists from different countries would diversify their choice. With the second-highest arrival of the Koreans, he said that the situation was obvious in which other countries might make an important contribution to tourism. It should therefore not be a priority to focus on one country but opt for others.

"We should consider this as an awakening call not just because of the fact that China Tourists are the majority of tourists arrived (in the Sabah area) on a single tourist objective (especially).

"There has also been an increase in the number of tourists who have arrived from Korea to make them the second highest, which I hope will make us strategize (when) bring tourists into the country," he said.

Chan also said the people should not worry because China took the necessary precautions, particularly for the cities affected by the blockage of their outbound flights.

"I trust in State Government, in particular Sabah Minister Datuk Christina Liew, for Tourism, Culture and the Environment," he said.

On Sunday, Liew announced the suspension of AirAsia flights from Sabah to Wuhan, China after the coronavirus outbreak.
