SARAWAK:

Business events in Sarawak resume domestic and, preparing for, international corporate meetings and corporate incentives initiatives with the launch of a brand new teambuilding product aligned with the Sarawak Government’s destination development plan to embrace digital technology, promote destination sustainability while injecting a higher purpose into teambuilding activities under the Tribe Legacy Sarawak campaign.

The new teambuilding product is known as Tribespirit Teambuilding and is a treasure-hunt inspired adventure which had its first trial run over the weekend with 40 participants from Sarawak’s business events and tourism industries testing their team leadership skills through a series of physical challenges throughout Kuching city and trivia quizzes on Sarawak’s culture, adventure, nature, food and festivals. The unique selling point of this particular teambuilding programme is the use of Go Team mobile application to manage and monitor on-ground activities remotely. Updates, feedback, and scores are kept in real-time to give the programme a more tailored experience.

“Our business events industry is ahead in adopting digital and mobile technologies to transform product and service delivery,” said Mr. Hii Chang Kee, Permanent Secretary to Sarawak’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. “Digital transformation is a key agenda in Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 policy, and what this has proven is the feasibility and success of both the app and teambuilding activities for customisable, future-forward incentive programmes.”

This year, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) forged collaborations with industry partners to develop the corporate meetings and corporate incentives market. “Sarawak is capable of delivering incentive programmes that are beyond the traditional tug-of-war, pen-and-paper method,” said Amelia Roziman, BESarawak’s CEO. “We are constantly analysing and testing out angles to develop high engagement, motivational programmes that incorporate technology to elevate the experience. The trial run was successful and we believe incentive groups would definitely find Tribespirit Teambuilding worthwhile. This initiative will also be developed for other business events cities such as Sibu and Miri in the future.”

Tribespirit Teambuilding is a rather unique initiative, even for seasoned training and teambuilding provider Asia Ability. “We are proud to partner with BESarawak to host this unique teambuilding initiative powered by our own Go Team app,” said David Powell, Managing Director of Asia Ability. “We collaborated closely with all parties to ensure that the experience was done safely and followed all standard operating procedures. Asia Ability is very excited to be part of this journey towards the recovery of Sarawak’s business events industry.”

The teambuilding programme was developed in collaboration with the Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies (ASIA) and Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA - Sarawak Chapter), who joined the teambuilding together with Sarawak Business Events (SBE) Association, Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak (MTAC).

BESarawak’s support and services extend to helping corporate organisations organise and host incentive programmes.
