BANGKOK :

In an attempt to improve the sector of tourism hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand's cabinet approved the admission into the Reign of cruise ships and yachts with foreigners.

Deputy spokesperson for the State, Traisuree Taisaranakul, said that the cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Chan ocha, Prayuth Taisaranakul agreed to allow cruise passengers from the low and medium- risk countries to enter the kingdom.

She said that all passengers onboard should comply with the strict health measures that the Thai government has put on them, including 14 days of quarantine, and health insurance covering COVID-19 and other ills for the sum or equivalent of US$ 100,000.

“Cruise ship and yacht passengers will be granted a Special Tourist Visa (STV) that costs 2,000 baht. They are allowed to extend the 90-day visa twice,” she said at a press conference.

However, she did not say when the initiative will kick-off.

Last week, Thailand welcomed the first group of tourists from Shanghai after a ban on regular travellers since April this year.
