The online holiday rental giant Airbnb is now recruiting travellers for scientific expeditions

An environmental project called ‘Antarctic Sabbatical’ is created by Airbnb partnering with Ocean Conservancy which is a non-governmental entity working for decades to preserve the marine ecosystem. The entire project is formulated keeping the impact of plastic pollution in mind and getting involved in an environmental project for sustainability.

This project is said to be formulated by coming November and December where a total of 5 travellers will be selected and sent to Antarctica without any scientific qualification and experience the impact of microplastic Ima location which is far away from day to day human activities. The travellers will be accompanied by an Antarctica specialist, working on a doctorate in biological sciences at the United Kingdom’s University of Exeter named Kristie jones- Williams.

The chosen travellers will first undergo intense training and will first undergo training in glaciology and then sample collection in Punta Arenas, Chile. Once on-site in Antarctica they will start collecting samples. While the entire trip is for research purpose only, but the travellers chosen can also be able to explore Drake Icefall and Snowey Charles peak Windscoop Corridor. The main objective of the project is to detect the microfibres and which in a way provide the evidence of the presence of plastic and how the pollution travels across and evaluate the distance travelled.

To participate, a person must be available during the upcoming November and December and fluency in English is a must in order to communicate with the fellow members without any difficulty whatsoever. The chosen people will be declared by October 30th.
