The sixth edition of hot air balloon fiesta welcomed good crowd despite the coronavirus outbreak

The sixth edition of Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta helmed by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The annual event, which saw different hot air balloon designs displayed each year, will let the visitors' experience riding the hot air balloons in two sessions daily, at 7.30 am or 6 pm for 2 days .

Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow said since 2015 the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta has become an annual event and included in the state government tourism calendar.

Tethered balloon rides are available during the fiesta where the hot air balloons will rise up to about 60 feet from the ground to overlook the field.

Meanwhile State Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said every year 15 international and local hot air balloons will be featured featured during the two-day event.

He also added that the crowd was quite welcoming this year despite the hot issue now in the world which is the coronavirus.

" The crowd tonight is quite good today and we can see that the coronavirus issue is not affecting us. We have also provided face mask and hand sanitizer to the public." he said to the press yesterday. 

Apart from the tethered rides, there will be “Night Glow” shows at 8.45pm where the hot air balloons will be lighted up.

Other than the hot air balloons, food stalls offering a variety of local and international fare were set up around the field.

Other activities such as art and craft workshops, paddle boat rides in an inflatable pool, reverse bungee jumping and a giant trampoline were available throughout the day.
