SABAH:

This year the tourism industry prospered well, with touristic arrivals substantially higher than last year.

It reflects well the target of four million tourist arrivals this year by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment.

On 22 November, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Datuk Christina Liew, said she was positive about this target.

In the first nine months of this year, the State has received 3,11 million visitors. It reveals an 8.5 percent increase over the 2018 same period (2.87 million visitors with RM6.21 billion of tourism revenue).

The current trend in tourist arrivals, which by September was 77.8 percent of the four-million target, strengthened her confidence and estimated that RM6.74 billion in income contributed.

Liew noted the accomplishments through the air transport, citing the introduction by Jeju Airlines from Korea of 15 Muan-to-City flights from 13 July to 31 August.
