MALAYSIA:

The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry demand that immigration screening procedures at KL International Airport be made better by increasing the number of immigration counter employees and stepping up the use of facial recognition technology (KLIA).

This is crucial, according to Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, to address the issue of lengthy wait times brought on by an increase in foreign visitors to Malaysia.

"To speed up the clearance process, the Immigration Department's facial recognition system should be made available to all foreign visitors, not just those with long-term visas.

"We need to fix this problem promptly if Malaysia wants to welcome tourists and promote the country among the most desirable locations," he said in a statement released here on Monday (Jan 23).

According to the statement, Tiong observed the KLIA visitor arrival process and discovered that visitors had to line up and wait, with some having to wait nearly two hours, for the immigration check-in process.

He also suggested that KLIA officials take into account stationing bilingual workers to make it simpler for travelers to go through the inspection procedures.
