SINGAPORE :

During the last two weeks of March 2021, a significant increase has been recorded in travel searches to Singapore from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Taiwan.

This increase is reflected in the plans to restore travel between these countries and Singapore which were reported in the data consortiums of ADARA.

Australia was the first country to announce talks on a possible bilateral travel bubble with Singapore. The most significant increase in travel searches to Singapore was detected.

In the two weeks after the news, travel searches from Australia to Singapore increased market share by 34 percent over the same period in comparison to the size of all searches in Singapore.

Travel searches and reservations from Australia to Singapore have increased from 15 to 28 March, compared to the previous window (1-14 March).

Besides, increases in travel searches were also identified within the same time frame in other countries that also initiated discussions with Singapore about travel bubble arrangements.

For example, the search for travel between Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore increased market share by 19%, with travel between Taiwan and Singapore rising by 14%.

Beyond countries that have ongoing discussions around bilateral travel arrangements, Denmark and the United Arab Emirates have also seen an increase in the market share of global travel searches to Singapore at 26% and 19%, respectively.

The positive growth in travel searches from those sources to Singapore provides a preliminary indicator of steep international travel demand.

As arrangements become more robust and more announcements are made in the coming weeks and months, intra-regional travel continues to gradually bounce up as pent-up demand for travel accumulates in wave conditions over much of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.
