In an attempt to avoid infection with COVID-19, the Government of Terengganu has postponed two major events within the national tourism calendar scheduled for the state temporarily.

State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said the two events were the Digital Intelligence Technology (DIGIT) 2020 conference on 17 -19 March and Terengganu Bike Week on 27- March.

However, he said that during the school holidays the state government welcomes the arrival of domestic tourists to visit the island, beaches and other places of interest in that state.

"The program or assembly of over 100 visitors based on the advice of the Health Department of Terengganu should be postponed according to the instructions of the Secretary of State.

"Therefore we are now postponing the two programs until the situation improved, and the new date will be announced later," he said.

Also present was state Tourism Department director Ab Rasid Jusoh.

In addition to the decrease in the number of visitors due to COVID-19, Ariffin said the State Government developed national tourism packages to provide incentives and increase promotional activities for tourists as well.
