MELAKA:

It is expected that about 3,000 visitors will attend and celebrate the 2019 Christmas Day Celebration in the Melaka State on December 30.

The event, held in the Portuguese Village, Ujong Pasir will be officiated by Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari.

Various activities and performances will take place during the reception which is scheduled to start at 7.30pm.

Ujong Pasir is the only place in Malaysia with a Portuguese Village and a large number of Serani people.

It is understood that to date, some 1,200 to 2,000 Serani people live in the village and at least some of them live in other areas of Malacca. Melaka is the only state in Malaysia that has had Portuguese settlements since 1511.
