KUCHING:

The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2025 has once again proven its dedication to environmental sustainability, successfully diverting over 30% of total waste generated during its three-day celebration from June 20–22 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.

A total of 3,543.3 kilograms of waste was recorded, with 1,550.0 kilograms—representing 31.3%—diverted through recycling and composting efforts. This outcome reflects the combined impact of eco-conscious festival-goers and a strategic partnership with Trienekens Sarawak, which provided key waste segregation infrastructure.

Despite a slight reduction from last year’s 37% diversion rate, the 2025 edition welcomed 22,000 attendees and maintained consistent sustainability standards. Recycled materials included plastic (410.8 kg), metal (271.0 kg), paper (215.7 kg), and glass (225.0 kg), while 413.6 kg of food waste was composted.

Sarawak Tourism Board CEO, Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, praised festival attendees for their commitment to proper waste disposal and thanked Trienekens Sarawak for their pivotal support. “Your actions are helping us create one of the most eco-conscious festivals in the region,” she said.

With its theme “Connections: One Earth, One Love,” RWMF 2025 not only celebrated global music and culture but also reinforced environmental responsibility. Organisers aim to build on this success and further raise the bar for sustainable event practices in Malaysia and beyond.
