Penang:

Penang State Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports and Health, YB Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, officiated the opening of the International Congress of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM) with an impassioned address emphasising the importance of advancing women’s health through science, innovation, and holistic balance.

Held in Penang, the congress gathered leading medical professionals, researchers, and advocates from around the globe to share the latest developments and challenges in maternal and reproductive health.

In his keynote, YB Daniel warmly welcomed delegates to Penang, the “Pearl of the Orient,” and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to elevating healthcare standards. He highlighted a major Federal Government allocation of RM758 million for healthcare upgrades at Penang Hospital—including RM307 million for a new Women and Children’s Block.

Drawing from Traditional Chinese Medicine, he spoke on the harmony of the Five Elements (??) in relation to women’s health, underscoring the need for balance between ancient wisdom and modern medicine.

He praised OGSM’s relentless efforts in championing women’s healthcare and concluded with a powerful quote from I Ching (??): “With united strength and hearts, even metal can be broken.”

YB Daniel encouraged all attendees to seize the congress as an opportunity to spark impactful collaborations and build a healthier, more inclusive future for all women.
