The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), in collaboration with IndiGo and Tourism Malaysia, has embarked on a high-impact sales mission across six key cities in South India, aimed at strengthening tourism ties and accelerating growth ahead of the highly anticipated Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
The multi-city roadshow — themed “Meet Penang: Presentations & Networking” — covers Bengaluru (8 July), Coimbatore (9 July), Madurai (10 July), Tiruchirappalli (12 July), Puducherry (14 July), and Chennai (15 July), targeting travel agents, tour operators, and industry stakeholders in one of India’s most dynamic outbound travel regions.
Speaking at the Coimbatore event, Mr. Ashwin Gunasekeran, Chief Executive Officer of PCEB, highlighted the strategic importance of the South Indian market:
“India, particularly South India, remains a priority market for Penang. With the rise of experiential and cultural travel, Penang offers Indian travellers the perfect mix of heritage, gastronomy, wellness, and modern hospitality. As we gear up for Visit Malaysia 2026, this mission allows us to build strong partnerships and create compelling travel opportunities that benefit both sides.”
Mr. Ashwin added that Penang has seen increasing interest from Indian wedding planners, medical travellers, and MICE groups, thanks to improved accessibility and year-round appeal.
With IndiGo’s growing connectivity to Malaysia and a strong cultural affinity between both regions, the mission is expected to translate into higher tourist arrivals, extended stays, and increased tourism spending.
This initiative marks a pivotal move in positioning Penang as a premier Malaysian destination for Indian travellers in the lead-up to VM2026.
