SAN FRANCISCO:

Airbnb Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky has announced bold plans to transform the platform into an “AI-first” application, with intelligent agents capable of handling not only accommodation bookings but also entire trip planning — from flights and restaurant reservations to curated activities.

Speaking in a recent Business Insider report, Chesky said the move marks Airbnb’s evolution from a peer-to-peer lodging marketplace into a full-scale, AI-powered travel concierge, potentially disrupting traditional travel agencies and rival platforms.

The initiative builds on earlier AI integration in customer service, which has already cut human intervention in queries by 15%. Industry analysts see it as part of Airbnb’s strategy to tap into the $1 trillion experiences market.

However, Chesky acknowledged challenges ahead, including data privacy, accuracy, and liability concerns. The company is also exploring partnerships with AI chatbot providers to enhance the platform’s capabilities.

If successful, Airbnb’s AI-first pivot could redefine how travellers plan and book holidays, blending technology with hyper-personalised experiences.
