Laos’ cultural gem, Luang Prabang, recorded an impressive 162% rise in tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2025, highlighting the nation’s strong tourism rebound, Lao National Radio reported.
From January to March, the province welcomed 1,167,581 visitors. Domestic travellers accounted for 459,091—a 183% increase from the same period in 2024—while international arrivals surged by 232% to reach 708,490. The tourism boom generated over USD 584 million in revenue during the first three months alone.
The growth follows a record-breaking 2024, when Luang Prabang exceeded its annual tourist target by over 30%, attracting 2.3 million visitors and earning more than USD 1 billion. For 2025, local authorities are setting their sights on sustaining this momentum with a target of 2.3 million visitors and USD 1.2 billion in tourism receipts.
Located 220 kilometers north of Vientiane, Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its Buddhist temples, colonial architecture, and scenic landscapes.
Tourism continues to be a major contributor to Laos’ economy, supporting jobs, community development, and much-needed foreign currency inflow as the country pushes forward with post-pandemic recovery plans.
