Georgetown:

In a landmark collaboration, Penang has been chosen as a principal filming location for the Miss Hong Kong 2025 pageant, following a strategic partnership between the Penang State Government and TVB, Hong Kong’s leading broadcaster. This marks a significant milestone for Malaysia’s tourism industry, as Penang is poised to be showcased to millions of international viewers.

On 1 August, the 14 finalists of Miss Hong Kong 2025 made a striking appearance at City Hall in George Town, dressed in elegant white ensembles, signaling the start of a multi-week filming schedule across Penang’s most iconic sites. These include cultural landmarks, lush natural settings, and coastal gems that highlight the island’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.

Announcing the collaboration, Penang State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee Chairman Wong Hon Wai emphasized the opportunity this partnership presents for Penang to elevate its global profile. The pageant, broadcast weekly by TVB, reaches an audience of over 5.1 million viewers in Hong Kong and millions more across Greater China and internationally.

“Miss Hong Kong is more than a beauty pageant; it’s a cultural institution with global influence,” said Wong. “Having it filmed here allows Penang to present its rich heritage, diverse culture, and breathtaking scenery to a vast international audience.”

Filming locations will include Penang Hill, Batu Ferringhi, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town. Each episode will not only follow the contestants’ journey but also serve as a visual tour of Penang’s offerings—from colonial-era architecture and street art to modern cafes and pristine beaches.

The collaboration forms part of Penang’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading filming and tourism destination. Wong noted that beyond short-term exposure, the partnership is expected to stimulate long-term tourism growth, attract international investors, and open doors for future global productions.

Miss Hong Kong’s historical significance—dating back to 1946—and its wide-reaching cultural impact provide Penang with a unique platform to reimagine its tourism brand. With global tourism recovery in full swing, the timing of this collaboration is expected to yield substantial benefits for Malaysia’s hospitality, retail, and creative sectors.

As the world tunes in to Miss Hong Kong 2025, Penang stands ready to captivate audiences—not just as a backdrop to a prestigious pageant, but as a destination brimming with charm, culture, and opportunity.
