A civil action is being pursued for 1MDB in Malaysia

Recently the finance minister added on Wednesday that ”A civil action is being pursued in Malaysia in order to recover about RM4 billion of funds which were dispersed by a former subsidiary of 1MDB(1 Malaysia Development Bhd) which is under investigation for money laundering.

In order to recover the billions of dollars money stolen by 1MDB, this is the least action that could be taken by Malaysian authorities for seeking the same.

It is believed that a total of $4.5 billion dollars has been misappropriated by 1MDB by their higher officials and their associates in between the year of 2009 and 2014, as believed by US and Malaysian investors.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said “ the RM4 billion was disbursed from the 1MDB unit and was then used and circulated around the world.

He also added” that the government through SRC are already in action and are trying to take civil action towards the crime and are tracking down the money as well.

Mr Lim said,” BSI Bank in Switzerland, Bank Julius Baer & Co Ltd in Hong Kong and a Mongolian coal exploration company are among the firms that received the funds from SRC”.

Lim said that the money was borrowed by SRC from Malaysia’s public service pension fund, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan, and any recovered money will Ben returned back to the fund.

Former prime minister Najib Rajak has been charged for the offence and he has been constantly denying the same. In the first trial, he is accused of receiving US$10 million illegally.
